As winter rolls on it’s important to remember the snow ordinance and what that means for parking in Perry when there is snow on the roads.
The snow ordinance for the City of Perry states that if there is a half-inch of snow that falls on the streets that vehicles need to be off the roadways. Vehicles need to stay off until the snow stops and the roads are completely cleared curb to curb.
If the vehicles have not been moved Perry Police Chief Eric Vaughn says they will then have to take action to ensure motorists are able to safely drive and the public works department can clear the roads.
“We will go out and if people haven’t moved their vehicles we will ticket them. It’s a $25 ticket if it’s a second offense it’s a $50 ticket and then we will try to make contact with that person if we know from their registration or whatever that they live in that area we will try to make contact with them. We will kind of try and do the whole town and making those notifications and citing people if we have to and then if they aren’t moved after that, probably the following morning, that we are going to come out and tow vehicles if necessary.”
This reminder is so the Perry Police Department doesn’t have to ticket or tow anyone and public works can clear the streets to make it safe for motorists.
