Guthrie County Sheriff Marty Arganbright introduced his newest deputy Matt Losee to the County Board of Supervisors at their regular meeting this past Tuesday.
Losee currently serves as a detention officer at the Polk County Jail in Des Moines. Arganbright says this is the first uncertified hire he’s made, and gave some more details about Losee’s timeline.
“He is not certified, so I’ll be sending him to the (Iowa Law Enforcement) Academy. We called for two different dates for the Academy, which is in Camp Dodge. They held a seat for us in January and again in April. The candidates all have to go down there and do the physical fitness test to be invited. Sometimes all the candidates don’t make it. It weeds them out. That opened up a seat for Matt, and the Academy called me, so he will be going to the Academy January 4.”
The Supervisors asked Arganbright if he had any concerns about the certification process.
“I’m not worried about him. He wanted to come here for four times he’s applied. He’ll come here, he’ll move here. He’ll be a great deputy. I know that. Every time I’ve hired, I’ve hired certified, but I wanted to hire Matt.”
Losee will return from the Academy in April as a fully certified deputy.
