Paton-Churdan split a Rolling Valley Activities Conference girl/boy basketball doubleheader with CAM (Anita) in Churdan on Friday night.

The Rockets knocked off the Class 1A number 10 Cougars 49-36 to improve to 8-2 overall and 7-1 in the conference. Senior Danielle Hoyle had 22 points for P-C, who led 27-22 at intermission. Senior Tessa Steimel added 15 points as the duo combined to score 37 of the Rockets’ 49 points. Senior Chloe Berns had five points with junior Carmyn at four, and senior Karissa Stevenson scored three. No CAM player reached double figures scoring and they lost for just the second time in 10 games this season, both in conference play. Molly Venteicher had nine points for the Cougars.

The boys game went to the Cougars by a 61-50 final on the strength of CAM’s 17-6 advantage in the fourth quarter. After trailing 18-12 after one period, the Rockets led 26-25 at the half, and the game was tied 44-44 at the end of the third quarter. Joe Carey had 12 points and Connor Brus 10 for P-C. Seth Thurman added eight points with seven from Justin Stream. Shaydon Thurman’s nine rebounds and five assists led the team in both categories. P-C is now 3-7 while CAM improved to 4-5.
