After a momentary pause, Greene County Public Health has announced that they have started taking requests again to administer the COVID-19 vaccine to the next priority group.

Director Becky Wolf anticipates giving vaccines to the Phase 1B Tier 1 group of people next week. Those individuals include first responders, pre-kindergarten-12th grade staff, early childhood education and childcare workers, along with those 65 and older. She says they use the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention mass vaccination guidance, as well as guidance from the Iowa Department of Public Health to determine the priority groups.

Wolf explains that they have over 300 people currently on their waiting list. She says they temporarily had to stop taking requests so that they could reassess the process. She asks for everyone’s patience as they begin the next step in administering vaccinations.

“We have a limited amount of vaccine. We anticipate that continuing for at least a few weeks, if not a little bit longer. In the meantime, we’re going to move forward. We’ll start to try and work on those tier one groups. Obviously out of fairness, the people that called in or are on the waiting list, we will take care of you, we’re going to honor your request, and we’ll go according to the date we received your request.”

There are three ways for those that qualify for the first tier of Phase 1B to get on a waiting list. Wolf says the newest way is by going online and filling out a request form.
