Despite the relatively mild winter so far, the Raccoon Valley Radio listening area will suffer some extremely cold temperatures as this week comes to a close.
Weatherology Meteorologist Ray Miller says frostbite can happen very quickly in these kinds of temperatures.
“It’s going to be a significant cooldown, both for Thursday and Friday and then especially as we head into the weekend. That’s when the cold air settles in across the region, with temperatures likely only reaching single digits for highs by Sunday afternoon. Sunday certainly looking like the coldest day of this particular cold snap. The front begins to move through Wednesday night into Thursday. That’ll bring a chance for some snow, but we’re not looking for much in terms of snow accumulation. It’s a fairly quick moving front, perhaps an inch of snow by Thursday afternoon as those temperatures start falling.”
Miller adds that it’s important to dress in layers and cover as much exposed skin as you can by wearing a good pair of gloves and a mask to cover as much of your face as possible.
