The Iowa House recently passed a constitutional amendment regarding the state’s stance on abortion.

House District 47 Representative Phil Thompson voted in favor of the Abortion Neutrality Amendment and says the legislation states that Iowa is neutral on the topic of abortion.

“I support the language in the amendment. Ultimately I’m proud life. I do think there was some overstepping by the judicial branch where they essentially penned a right to an abortion in state case law.”

Thompson notes the amendment must pass through the Senate, but will then need to pass the next general assembly, following the 2022 election, before the legislation to go before the voters to decide if the amendment should be added to the state’s constitution.
