
It’s the postseason for high school athletes and Greene County has wrestlers in the Class 2A District 1 tournament in Adel at 12 p.m. today. At 5 o’clock, the girls’ basketball team enters the opening round of 3A Region 1 action in Atlantic.
Eight Rams qualified from last Saturday’s Sectional Tournament in Woodward to today’s District in Adel. There are four wrestlers in each of the 14 weight classes and all first and second place finishers advance to the State Tournament at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines Feb. 18-19-20. Six of the eight Rams are Sectional champions. They were sophomore McKinley Robbins 120 lbs., senior Brady Stauffer 138 lbs., freshman Gavin Scheuermann 145 lbs., junior Nate Black 160 lbs., freshman Broc Hammen 220 lbs., and senior Sawyer Schiltz 285 lbs. juniors John Sprague 126 lbs. and Noble Hoyt 170 lbs. were second place finishers at the Sectional.
Coach Todd Gordon’s girls’ basketball team is 6-12 and they meet 8-13 Atlantic. The win total for Greene is twice as much as last season and five more wins compared to two seasons ago.
