The Guthrie County Department of Public Health hasn’t recorded any variants to COVID-19 yet in our area.

Public Health Director Jotham Arber says just because they haven’t seen it yet doesn’t mean they aren’t taking measures to protect against it.

“The more that the virus spreads right now, the easier it is for these variants to potentially take hold. The one thing we want to try to do in Guthrie County is get the vaccine out as quickly as possible while keeping that variant out of the picture. What we know with the Moderna and Pfizer is it is good at fighting the variants that we’re seeing. Keeping that variant low, keeping COVID low right now is the best thing we can do to get to a summer where we don’t have COVID-19 as the major theme for sickness in our country.”

Arber credits county residents for following public health protocols to keep the COVID-19 positivity rate low. For more information, visit https://healthyguthrie.org/immunizeguthrie.
