The first time that Dallas Center – Grimes and ADM met back in December, the Mustangs rolled by 37 points, but they were in for a tussle on Thursday night at home, surviving by a score of 39-34 to advance to the class 3A Substate 8 final.
ADM and DCG traded blows in the slow scoring affair as the Mustangs only lead 18-16 at halftime. In the fourth quarter, both teams took leads as both teams went back and forth, with the key play being an incredible 60 foot baseball pass from Luke Rankin to Cole Glasgow for a layup after ADM had just taken the lead moments before. ADM had a chance to tie the game multiple times in the final minute, but the Mustangs got the stops they needed to move on.
The Mustangs were able to get 17 points out of junior Cole Glasgow and 7 points and 6 assists out of senior Luke Rankin. Junior Bo Huston had seven steals on the night and also iced the game with free throws at the end of the game.
DCG will play in the Substate final on Monday night against Atlantic with the game to start at 5:30 at Indianola High School. You can listen to the game on 997 and 1310 KDLS.
