The Greene County School District certified budget was presented to the School Board at their work session earlier this week.
The proposed tax levy rate is $14.54 per $1,000 of valuation, which is slightly down compared to the current fiscal year tax levy rate of $14.55. This is due to the property valuations slightly increasing. Superintendent Tim Christensen said the certified budget is 99-percent driven by student enrollment, which this school year saw a 40 student enrollment drop. Other variables the school district receives from property taxes include preschool enrollment, which was down by one student and drop-out prevention dollars, which also had a decrease of $3,665.
There is an expected decrease in total expenses for next fiscal year of close to $10 million from the sales tax and facility fund, which Christensen noted was due to payments toward the new high school and middle renovation projects being completed. Expected revenues are projected to see an increase of over $300,000.
The district’s total expense budget is projected at $22,343,790. The public hearing on the budget is slated for Monday, April 15th at 5:15pm.
