With the winter and snowy season behind us, Guthrie County Secondary Roads handled every situation it came across.
County Engineer Josh Sebern says the winter season was pretty tame for the most part until the month of February. He describes the challenges they faced during the latter half of the month.
“We were starting to get a little concerned. We had some long stretches where the ditches were completely full. We’d shoved it all that we could shove it with (road) graders and a couple of areas we had to push back with loaders. The cold, and the snow events, and the snow drifting, that was also a problem. It was so cold that that snow would just continue to move around with any slight breeze. So that was a consistent struggle, trying to keep things open and keep things pushed back.”
Sebern points out that during the cold snap in February, they had to use different fluids and other substances to prevent diesel fuel in the snow removal equipment from freezing up. He expresses his gratitude to the secondary roads crew for meeting every winter challenge this year.
“Oh I’m very appreciative. It’s an excellent crew and they did very well over this long winter season. We’re having to keep going out and keep going out early in the morning, late at night and the long hours. They did very well.”
Sebern is now looking forward to the upcoming construction season in the warmer months.
