The Stuart Fire Department had a busy weekend with five fire-related calls.
Stuart Fire Chief Josh Renslow tells Raccoon Valley Radio the first call came around 2:45pm Saturday of an abandoned home fire on 140th Street, south of Stuart near Walnut Street. Renslow says he could see flames en route to the fire and the fire also damaged a camper that was on site, as well as 5-10 acres of corn stalks. He notes that the home was a total loss and the cause is undetermined but accidental in nature.
Renslow says as they were fighting the structure fire, there were two additional pages of fires at Diamondhead Lake and north of Stuart. Renslow notes that they had Panora and Redfield to the fire north of town of a possible structure fire and Dexter was paged to Diamondhead Lake. The final fire call on Saturday was on the eastern edge of Stuart of another grass fire, which the Stuart Fire Department responded to. Other agencies that responded included the Stuart Police Department, Adair County Sheriff’s Office and Stuart Rescue.
Renslow says on Sunday afternoon was another grass field fire that had gotten out of control, but the fire department was able to respond and put out the flames.
Renslow adds that no one was injured in any of the incidents, which he says is always a good sign that everyone gets to go home at the end of the day.
