Greene County held Media Day for soccer yesterday. Boys’ head coach Carl Behne The assistant Chad Black have more than 30 boys out for the sport. The pandemic cost all Iowa high school Spring sports the 2020 season, but the 2021 season is on, with certain COVID-19 precautions.

The Rams qualified for the Class 1A State tournament, but graduation in 2019 and 2020 took about half the starters. Coach Behne said the Rams are younger, but still a team to take seriously. “We’re historically younger than what we’ve been in the past. Just some of the soccer accumen and technical ability of a handful of the guys is there, and I would some a large number of guys understand the game. They may not have the footwork and technical ability of some of the guys, but they understand and see the game. They understand the spacing of the game, so that’s fun to see.”

Greene County has a scrimmage in Panora on the all-weather surface at Panorama High School this Saturday.
