A Greene County farm family recently earned a designation for their contributions to the pork industry.
Mike and Lucas Bravard received a Master Pork Award from the Iowa Pork Producers Association. Mike is a third-generation pig farmer that started raising pigs with his father in the 1970s. Through the years, Mike transitioned to raised-deck farrowing in the 1990s. Then in 2016, the operation expanded to a second site, as his son Lucas joined raising hogs after graduating from Iowa State University.
In 2018, Lucas bought another site and the duo are contract finishers for JBS. The two also farm 4,700 acres of corn and soybeans.
