The Perry Public School Board recently approved a renovation project for the elementary school playground.

Superintendent Clark Wicks says the plans for the $296,450 project are to have a blue and white playground in front of the building for kindergarten, along with first and second grades that will be adjacent to the existing playground.

“We are going to have some serious playground area that kids can play on. It’s going to be a huge, huge improvement and we are excited about that.”

Wicks tells Raccoon Valley Radio behind the school will be all new swingsets and freestanding pieces of equipment. Also, Wicks says there will be a change to the safety surface of the playgrounds.

“The surface under all of the playgrounds, both in the front and the back, will have the safety surface similar to what we have on that front playground, the existing one. We’re really excited about that and I think it’s going to be great for the kids.”

Wicks says the new equipment will be nice to have and things will be safer for the kids as well. Funding will be from the Physical Plant and Equipment Levy fund.
