National Telecommunicators Week is a time to recognize those in the community who make calling 911 a little easier.

Dallas County Sheriff’s Office Dispatcher Ashley Kuntz has been a dispatcher for nearly 14 years and says she has always been interested in law enforcement and trying to help people.

“I grew up with my parents being firefighters so that kind of threw me into the whole thing of wanting to learn more and help my community out.”

Kuntz says she has many tasks she does including 911 calls ranging from medical calls to domestic calls and paging out the appropriate first responders. Throughout her nearly 14 year career Kuntz recalls certain experiences.

“There is quite a bit when you are giving CPR instructions over the phone and you come to find out that the person did make it, that’s really rewarding and also, knowing that every night your officers are going home safe, that you did a good job and kept them safe.”

Kuntz says one of the favorite parts of her job is the fact that every day is never the same as the experience each day changes with the first responders you are working with or the types of tasks you are performing.
