Saydel High School on the northeast side of Des Moines was where the Greene County boys’ track & field team competed on Thursday night. Coach Chad Morton’s Rams placed emphasis on the events that were in contention for Drake Relays qualification. The Rams were 10th in the 16 team field with North Polk (Alleman) winning the team title and Madrid was second.

The only winning event for the Rams was the shuttle hurdle relay in a season best time of 1:02.73 with Nate Black, Bryce Stalder, Jaxon Warnke, and Jackson Morton. The Rams hope the time is fast enough to qualify for the Drake Relays and is nearly a second better than at another meet this season. Only 16 shuttle hurdle relays statewide will make the Drake Relays field.

Morton was a close second in the 110 meter high hurdles in a personal best time of 15.11 seconds, just .02 out of first place. Morton is a solid contender for the Drake Relays. Other contending events are Black in the high jump and Stalder in the long jump.

The high school list of qualifiers is expected to be announced today. All high school events at Drake will be contested on Thursday, April 22 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.

Next up for the Rams is the Greene County Coed Relays on Monday the 18th at Linduska Field in Jefferson.
