High speed chases continue to fester in Guthrie County.

Guthrie County Attorney Brenna Bird says there’s been an increase in high speed chases, due to serious crimes.

“We take that very seriously. We see more eluding, more car chases where people are doing high speed car chases to get away from law enforcement because of drugs, or because they’re driving while intoxicated. Extremely dangerous to the public and must be stopped. So we have continued to focus on those crimes, as have the law enforcement in the county.”

Sheriff Marty Arganbright echoes Bird’s comments and adds they try to intervene and stop those individuals before it becomes a more dangerous situation.

“I would advise anyone that if they decide they want to do that, they better think twice. Because not only are you liable for anybody that you hurt or kill, I’ll guarantee you that you’ll lose your license when you get stopped for quite a while.”

Arganbright says even if a chase happens to go outside of Guthrie County, they will contact local law enforcement that is ahead of the chase for assistance in slowing the high speed vehicle down until it comes to a complete stop.
