As COVID-19 vaccination efforts continue in Dallas County, the demand for the vaccinations has decreased.

Dallas County Health Department Public Information Officer Ann Cochran says they will decrease the amount of vaccines they request in the coming week due to a decrease in the demand.

“The people of Dallas County have done a great job of coming forward and scheduling appointments and getting their vaccinations. So, overall the entire county of Dallas County, everyone over the age of 16 we’ve got 53-percent of the population started or completed with their vaccinations.”

Cochran tells Raccoon Valley Radio those 65 and older in Dallas County are mostly vaccinated  but there are still people who aren’t coming forward to receive their vaccinations yet.

“Some of it we attribute it truly to the Iowa nice of the residents of Dallas County. People who are adults who don’t have any pre-existing health conditions and are not over age 65 have kind of hung back and figured ‘Oh I will let the other people go first. It’s okay I’ll be fine,’ well now we are here to tell you it’s your turn.”

Cochran says while the demand for vaccinations decreases she encourages people to continue to come forward and get vaccinated including 16 and 17-year-olds who are eligible for the Pfizer vaccine which can be received at Perry HyVee.
