At the most recent Perry School Board meeting the renovation for the Jim Kaufman Track was given the go ahead.

Perry Superintendent Clark Wicks says the Board approved the bid and contract for the project. Wicks says the project is slated to begin in June and is anticipated to be completed by the beginning of the next school year. He shares some of what will be done to the track.

“They will literally be digging up the track. They’re going to go down a good amount of depth and getting a good solid base. One of the things that the Board also voted for was to have some concrete involved in that base.”

Wicks tells Raccoon Valley Radio he is excited for the track that will be used for students and the community alike.

“We will be able to host track meets. It’s going to be a six lane track still so we will host the track meets that we have done in the past. We just hope that our kids can run faster than anybody else on this beautiful track.”

Wicks believes using concrete will help the track last longer and there will be some maintenance included as it relates to reapplying polyurethane every six to seven years.
