Following the initial pause on administering the Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 vaccine, Greene County Public Health has announced its reschedule clinic.

Director Beck Wolf says the one-shot vaccination clinic will take place Tuesday, May 4th from 9am-4pm at their main office on the lower level of the Greene County Medical Center. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio they had to delay their original clinic date from April 13th, when the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommended pausing administering that vaccine due to a small percentage of individuals that developed a rare blood clot.

However, the CDC and FDA recently lifted the pause and Wolf adds that she doesn’t have concerns with the J&J vaccine.

“There was over 6 million doses of the vaccine given and yet only six people developed this very rare blood clotting disorder. But that doesn’t mean it’s going to happen to everybody. But I think it was important that they paused it so that they could learn more about it and try to learn more about the factors involved with the people that had become ill.”

Wolf says there are 300 doses of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine and notes that individuals can call them or click a link below to schedule an appointment to receive the vaccine. As of Wednesday, Wolf reports about 34-percent of the county’s population of those eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine are fully vaccinated, and of that, close to 80-percent of those 65 and older are fully vaccinated.
