A new initiative is making transportation easier for Greene County residents to get to medical appointments.
Greene County Public Health is teaming up with Greene County Medical Center and the Greene County Medical Center Foundation to provide a new program called Healthy Rides. County residents can schedule a time to be taken to medical appointments at the medical center or McFarland Clinic in Jefferson for free.
The vehicle was purchased with a 2020 Grow Greene County Gaming Corporation grant with public health. Drivers are volunteers and riders must be able to walk independently to and from the vehicle, as no assistance will be provided and the vehicle is not handicap accessible. Riders must also be over 18, otherwise those under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. The Foundation is providing yearly maintenance of the vehicle and funding for marketing materials for the new program.
The free rides are available Monday through Friday from 8am-4:30pm. Those interested in being volunteer drivers or who would like to receive a free ride to their medical appointments can contact public health at 515-386-3228.
