We are at the end of National Police Week, and Jefferson city officials appreciate the work and community awareness of its police department.

Mayor Matt Gordon believes there are great employees with the police department, which starts at the very top.

“Starting with Chief (Mark) Clouse. He’s a great leader and he’s really dug in and stuck with the department and done everything he can to make sure that we’re getting officers in here and just building a great staff.”

Despite some turnover in the department, Gordon says there’s a great mixture of officers working the streets of Jefferson.

“We’ve got a great police department here. We’ve got some young officers, they’re kind of building up that next generation of officer that we’re bringing in here. I’d say we’re having some good success with getting some more officers in here. They’re a great, great department. (They’ve) got people out there that are community members. Everything that we’re looking for, we’re finding.”

National Police Week is from May 9th-15th.
