Iowa High School Coed State Qualifying Track & Field Meets were held Thursday and Greene County will be well represented at the Coed State Meet May 20-21-22 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.

The Rams were in a Class 2A meet at Manson with Coach Chad Morton’s boys winning the team title among 12 teams and Coach Derek Merk’s girls tied for eighth place in a field of 12. The Greene County boys scored 110 points and Pocahontas Area was second at 93.

In 2A, first and second place finishers Thursday automatically qualify for State, then the field of 24 per event is filled out by the eight best performances statewide that were not first or second. The Rams had several third and fourth place finishes that could be in contention for State qualification. Greene County’s first and second place finishes are listed below.

Greene County boys:

First place: Discus throw-Josh Ewalt 139′ 8-1/2″; 110 meter high hurdles- Jackson Morton :15.08; Shuttle hurdle relay- 1:02.27 (Nate Black, Bryce Stalder, Jaxon Warnke, Morton).

Second place: High jump- Black 6′ 3″; Long jump- Stalder 22′ 3-3/4″; 4 x 400 meter relay- 3:35.83 (Stalder, Warnke, Morton, Richard Daugherty).

Greene County girls:

First place: Discus throw- Brooklyn Olson 123′ 5″.

Second place: 4 x 200 meter relay- 1:50.31 (Olivia Shannon, Makala Kafer, Brianna Osterson, Natalie Heupel)

The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union and Iowa High School Athletic Association are expected to release the compete list of State qualifiers, including those earning At-Large berths, later today.
