With increased precipitation for Raccoon Valley Radio-listening area farmers, there was a decrease in the suitable field days.

According to the latest Iowa Crop Progress and Condition report, there were just 2.4 days suitable for field work last week.  Despite that, ISU Extension and Outreach Field Agronomist Mike Witt says the rain was good for farmers who have their crops in.

“This last week for farmers has actually been very good if you had your crops in the ground. We really needed the rain, we really needed the moisture and we also really needed the heat that came along with it. We had a lot of cold temperatures before. The hot and moist, humid conditions might not be comfortable for us but it’s great for the plant.”

According to the report 97-percent of corn has been planted and 89-percent of soybeans have been planted across the state.
