
A reminder that there will be a few Memorial Day services in Greene County.
St. Patrick’s Historical Church will have a mass service beginning at 8am on Monday. Additionally, there will be a military service following the mass church service. Then at 9:30am there will be a military service at the Highland Township Cemetery with the Town and Country Band to perform.
A program will take place at the Rippey Cemetery at 11am. The service will feature welcome remarks by Mary Weaver, followed by a presentation of colors from the Kincaid-Martin American Legion Post #583. Pastor Catherine Stokes will give a speech, along with Wyant Jungck reciting a poem “In Flanders Field,” followed by the laying of the Memorial wreath from Sharon Ulrich. The American Legion Post 583 will do a 21-gun salute and Taps will be played. Lunch will then follow at the Rippey United Methodist Church.
The City of Jefferson will have two services on Memorial Day. A blessing of the graves along with the Jefferson Veterans of Foriegn Wars (VFW) and Jefferson American Legion will provide a firing squad and Taps will be performed at 9:30am at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. Finally, at 10:45am at the Jefferson Municipal Cemetery there will be a flag raising with the Jefferson Fire Department, the benediction will be given by Pastor Chad Cummings, followed by a speech by Greene County Veterans Affairs Director Michael Bierl. The program will conclude with music by the Greene County High School band and military honors with a firing squad by the VFW and American Legion.
