The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Tuesday.
During open forum, Supervisor Tom Contner reported that Grand Junction Mayor Gerald Herrick has called for a termination of the 28E agreement with the Greene County Recycling program. Contner said Herrick wanted to reduce the collection fees and wanted a new 28E agreement in place. Contner added that Jefferson City Administrator Mike Palmer was going to attend the recycling organization’s next monthly meeting with a proposal. Currently, the City of Jefferson picks up all recycling materials from the City of Grand Junction.
Also, County Attorney Thomas Laehn told the Board there are 89 pending criminal cases in his office. He believed this number was higher than the average this time of year, due mostly to the COVID-19 pandemic and delaying trials and hearings.
The Board then approved a cigarette, tobacco, nicotine and vapor permits for Paton Pit Stop as presented. Finally, the Board approved creating a working group to establish ideas of how to spend an estimated $1.6 million that the county will receive from the federal American Rescue Plan. The individuals to serve on the working group include Supervisors Dawn Rudolph and Pete Bardole, County Auditor Jane Heun, County Treasurer Katlynn Mechaelsen, Laehn, Doug Hawn and County Engineer Wade Weiss.
