The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office 12th Annual Special Olympics All-Wheel Show is this weekend.
Dallas County Deputy Ray Dirksen says the coronavirus pandemic prevented the car show from taking place last year, but the sheriff’s office is excited for its return. Dirksen says attendees are encouraged to observe social distancing and wear masks if they feel more comfortable doing so.
“I think both me and Sheriff Chad Leonard are very excited to do the car show this year. Kind of nervous because we don’t know what the turnouts going to be, however I think we are feeling good about the turnout this year.”
Dirksen tells Raccoon Valley Radio all of the money raised during the event goes directly to the Special Olympics of Iowa. Dirksen talks about the impact of that investment.
“Any money that is raised for them is greatly appreciated by Special Olympics and their families. What we actually do here with the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office is we have Special Olympics come out to the car show, they will set up a booth, we have athletes at the car shows with us and at the same time at the end of the day when we give out awards, prizes. It’s the actual athletes that hand those awards out.”
Dirksen says the athletes also get to select the winner of one of the awards. The show is scheduled to begin with registration at 10 a.m. Saturday and award presentations to begin at 2:30 p.m. at 8th and Main in Adel. Raccoon Valley Radio’s Little Big Red Radio will also be on-site during the all-wheel show, broadcasting live from 9-11 a.m.
