The Mustangs will have a home game in their first round, as they will be taking on Saydel in Grimes as they will be getting a home game. This is the first time that these two teams will be playing each other.

The Mustangs are the three seed in their substate region, as they are guaranteed a home game, if they are to win their next game would either be at home or on the road depending on the result of the other side of the bracket. The other side will be Boone vs. Creston, with Boone being the two seed in the substate.

The top overall seed in the district is Grinnell, who currently owns a 25-5 record.

The Mustangs were able to make it to the 3A semifinals last year and are hoping to return to the state tournament this year, which will be played in Iowa City.
