During the 4th of July holiday weekend, law enforcement in Greene County responded to several calls of fireworks complaints.

According to the Jefferson Police Department, officers responded to at least three complaint calls of fireworks being shot off within city limits each night from July 2nd-4th, including the Jefferson Fire Department responding to a dumpster fire at 11:43pm in the 100 block of West Lincoln Way, which the believed cause of the fire was from discharged fireworks. Even though fireworks are illegal within city limits, with exception of novelty fireworks, Police Chief Mark Clouse says no citations were issued.

The Greene County Sheriff’s Office also responded to several fireworks-related calls. A deputy investigated a complaint on July 3rd in Churdan, along with two complaints in Grand Junction and one in Scranton on July 4th. Authorities were also called to a ditch fire around 3:30pm on July 2nd, with the cause of fireworks being shot off. There was also a grass fire reported at 10:03pm July 4th that the Scranton Fire Department responded to in the 600 block of Brentwood Avenue, with the cause being firework-related.
