A two vehicle crash in Perry Friday night resulted in one person injured.

Perry Police Sergeant Jim Archer tells Raccoon Valley Radio the incident happened at 7:41pm on Highway 141 near the entrance to Ace Hardware. Archer says a 2007 Lincoln Navigator that was driven by 49-year-old Ricardo Espinoza of Perry was stopped at the stop light heading north from the parking lot of Ace Hardware. When the light changed to green, Espinoza was proceeding into the intersection with Highway 141, when his vehicle was struck by an eastbound 2020 Ford Escape that was driven by 88-year-old Juanita Otool of Coon Rapids.

The collision tore the right front tire of the Escape off and the airbags in both vehicles did not deploy. Archer says Otool suffered minor injuries and was transported to Dallas County Hospital by Dallas County EMS. Espinoza was uninjured. Otool told authorities that she thought her traffic light was green, but then became distracted, and when she looked up, the light had changed to red. Archer says Otool was cited for failure to obey a traffic signal.

Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, Perry Police and Fire departments were also at the scene.
