As the Raccoon Valley Radio tower project continues this week, more changes will be made.
General Manager John McGee says the tower workers are in Arkansas fabricating a jack to lift the center tower to replace the insulator that was damaged in last year’s derecho storm. McGee says a jack had to be specially made to lift to the tower.
“Right now they are creating that and then when they do get back up site later this week they will be jacking that tower up, replacing the insulator and then that’s when we can really get after the next level of repairs which is on our 99.7(FM) signal.”
McGee says the antennas for 99.7FM KDLS were knocked out of alignment during the derecho. McGee points out additional work will be done to replace the antennas on top of the tower as well as replacing the transmission line. Due to this, 99.7FM will be off the air while that work is being completed at a later date.
“When we do start working on the 99.7(FM) signal, they literally are going to remove the old transmission line that’s on the tower and remove the old antennas and put new antennas up. Well, during that time we will be off the air on 99.7(FM).”
McGee says the outage could last an entire day or longer and Raccoon Valley Radio will inform listeners of the outage before it happens.
As a reminder if there are on-air interruptions on 99.7FM KDLS, you can always listen either on 1310AM KDLS, the KDLS app on your electronic device or streaming online at raccoonvalleyradio.com.
