The Community Players of Greene County will be performing an original play this weekend.

The Bigfoot Monologues was written by Greene County resident Sarah Nicholoson. Director Nat Payan describes what the play is about.

“Bigfoot is really sick and tired of humans kind of going in on his turf and his personal bubble. So he enlists the help of other cryptids, like the Lockness Monster, Yeti, Mothman, the Jersey Devil, and they all share their individual experiences with humans, kind of impeding on their privacy.”

The first performance will be Saturday at the Rippey Sesquicentennial + 1 event at 2pm outside in front of the library. The second show will be Sunday at 1pm outside by the Scranton Community Center. Both performances are free, but free-will donations will be accepted and attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs, as no seating will be provided. Payan, who is making her directing debut and is studying theater at the University of Iowa, describes what she is looking forward to the most this weekend.

“Well, I have some younger actors in the cast and I am just so happy that I get to instill this passion of theater into them. There’s one cast member in particular that always comes up to me and was like, ‘What can I do better?’ It’s a really good feeling to be able to pass down theater, because I feel like it’s dying in a lot of places. So to keep it in a small community like Greene County is really important to me.”  

A fundraising meal for the Scranton Community Center will be served on Sunday starting at noon. For $5, there will be a grilled pork sandwich, chips, cookies and water. You can see the full cast list below.
