The City of Rippey will have plenty of entertainment this Saturday as the town celebrates a milestone birthday, one year late.
The Sesquicentennial + 1 event kicks-off with cinnamon rolls and water served by the library starting at 9am, followed by the parade at 10. The car show will be on Main Street from 11am-4pm and there will be an antique tractor ride after the parade. Additionally, there will be a model airplane show at the Walt Anderson Field at 11:30am, and there will be inflatables. Lunch will be served from 11:30am-1:30pm at the United Methodist Church.
The afternoon activities include bingo and a photography display at the community center, and face painting and spin art at the shelter house, all starting at noon. A child’s tractor pull begins at 12:30pm, followed by Rick Brammer’s Big Bang Bubble program at the skating rink from 1:30-3:30pm. Mayor Dan Brubaker describes the details of the bubble program.
“Which is kind of a neat deal. These bubbles, like you’re blowing big bubbles, but there’s an additive in the soap and it makes them, they’re so tough you can actually stick your hand in them without them breaking. It’s kind of a cool thing.”
Other afternoon activities include a performance of “Bigfoot Monologues” by the Community Players of Greene County at 2pm in front of the library, a baseball game from 3-5pm, the opening of the time capsule after the baseball game, and the Greene County Cattlemen’s Association will be grilling burgers from 3-7pm at the ballfield.
The evening activities include a performance from the Town and Country Band at the ballfield and a street dance on 3rd Street, both starting at 6:30pm. The event wraps up with fireworks at dusk.
