For one popular trail that runs throughout the Raccoon Valley Radio-listening area, the opportunity to gain national recognition begins today.

Dallas County Conservation Director Mike Wallace says the Raccoon River Valley Trail has been nominated for the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy Hall of Fame this year, one of just three nominees in the country.

“The Raccoon River Valley Trail is the only one in the state of Iowa that is up for nomination this year. The process would be, the voting opens, people would go to the site and hopefully vote for Raccoon River Valley Trail to be a member of the hall of fame.”

Wallace tells Raccoon Valley Radio the voting begins today which can be found on the Dallas County Conservation and Raccoon River Valley Trail Association Facebook pages. Wallace says it’s a chance to bring more recognition to this local trail.

“If we would happen to win, hey that’s fantastic too because then from a nationwide standpoint the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy will be announcing that the winner is and if you come in number one you get a little more PR (public relations).”

The voting period begins today and runs until August 6th. When the voting goes live you can find it here and here.
