Iowa high school Fall sports practices officially begin this Monday, and for Greene County, that means practice gets underway in Cross-Country, Volleyball, and Football. All three sports have veteran coaches back to lead the athletes in 2021.
Jeff Lamoureux coaches girls and boys cross-country. The coach told Raccoon Valley Radio they return nearly all the boys from the second place team in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference in 2020. The girls had more significant losses due to graduation. Coach Lamoureux told Raccoon Valley Radio both teams could use more runners, so he encourages high school boys and girls to give the sport a try.
Chris Heisterkamp is back heading the Rams in volleyball. There were some graduation losses from the 2020 team, however, a number of younger players also saw varsity playing time, so a fair amount of experience returns. The coach and her staff have put in a significant amount of off-season time on the volleyball court with the players.
Caden Duncan is the head football coach. He’s gone 16-5 in his first two seasons with the 2019 team advancing to the the Class 2A playoffs quarterfinals and last years Rams making it to the round of 16. A number of starters and others with varsity experience return.
