While the Fourth of July is more than a month in the past, Perry City Officials are still dealing with the aftermath of the holiday.

At several Perry City Council meetings since the Fourth of July citizens have been voicing their concerns on fireworks use in Perry. City Administrator Sven Peterson says the Council is considering ideas on how to remedy those concerns.

“Probably in the next couple of weeks we will plan on having, or getting scheduled maybe early September, a Council work session so that we can really just focus on that one topic of fireworks. We have talked about the possibility of putting out a survey just to get a more broad cross section of thoughts and opinions on fireworks whether to have them, not have them, (or) kind of keep what we have going.”

Peterson tells Raccoon Valley Radio the City has received plenty of feedback from the community on the use of fireworks being an issue. Peterson says once concern is the issue of enforcement.

“No matter what ordinance we have, what is compliance with that ordinance and then enforcement of that ordinance really going to come down to? For me and I know (Police) Chief (Eric) Vaughn that’s really kind of the concern is yeah we can come up with a really great ordinance however the council wants to do it. But when it comes down to enforcement of that ordinance are we really going to have the capacity to be able to be everywhere at once?”

Peterson says the City will continue to look at changing where fireworks can be sold among other things.
