Many high school sports are played on a court or field and the dimensions are either identical or similar. Cross-Country is different in that meets typically are run on golf courses or on school grounds. Jeff Lamoureux is the girls and boys cross-country coach for the Greene County Rams. He says the distance run is five kilometers (3.1 miles), but that’s where the similarities end. “Every course is different, so you can’t judge a time on one course. Obviously, elevations change, there are hills and turns, and a lot of different dynamics that go into a course.”

The coach added, “I was looking at our schedule and most of our meets are on golf courses with a couple being run on school grounds.” The Rams have moved their one home meet to Saturday, Sept. 11 at Jefferson Community Golf Course.

Greene County opens its season at the Iowa State University Course in Ames on Aug. 26.
