
Tuesday, August 17th
4:01am: Ron Mahoney reported his neighbor had a fire in their backyard causing a foul smell. An Officer responded to the 600 block of South Locust Street and spoke with the neighbor. They did not want to bother anyone and immediately put the fire out.
7:32am: An Officer was requested to assist the Greene County Ambulance Service at the Camden Apartments. The Officer assisted the Ambulance Crew as needed.
8:12am: Becky Freeman reported a cat inside an abandoned house in the 300 block of South Pinet Street. The Officer checked the vacant house and found the stray cat could enter the house and leave as needed.
8:54am: An Officer was requested to check the welfare of two males who appeared to be passed out in a white car. The car was parked in the parking lot for the Daubendiek walking park. The Officer checked on the two and found they had been sleeping in the vehicle. They were asked to move the vehicle, as where it was parked was interfering with the use of the lot.
11:40am: An Officer was dispatched to the 400 block of North Vine Street for a parking complaint. The Officer spoke with those involved and corrected the issue.
6:27pm: An Officer was dispatched to Ace Hardware, 403 West Head Street for a suspected theft from the store. The Officer is investigating.
8:02pm: Austin O’Connell reported his name was being slandered by others. The Officer investigated and found what was being reported was not criminal Harassment.
8:37pm: An Officer was dispatched to a residence in the 400 block of Brackett Street for a report of an adult female standing outside smoking marijuana. The Officer investigated. As a result, Jessica Lea Duong of Jefferson was placed under arrest for “Possession of Drug Paraphernalia”
11:36pm: Megan England reported hearing an argument in the 600 block of West Lincolnway. The Officer located one of the two individuals involved. It was found the argument had been verbal and nothing criminal was believed to have occurred.
Wednesday, August 18th
8:29am: Ritchie Burkhardt of Jefferson reported he was walking his dog near Jefferson’s recycling drop box on North Cedar Street. While walking, his dog was attacked by a stray dog. Burkhardt’s dog was not injured as a result. The Officer responded and checked the area the stray was last seen. The dog was not located.
10:06am: The Greene County Ambulance was dispatched to a residence in the 500 block of North Oak Street for an unresponsive adult male. The male was found to be deceased and the Officer assisted the ambulance crew as needed.
11:55am: Brittney Olson of Jefferson reported individuals were making insulting and inaccurate statements on social media sites about her. The Officer advised her what she had reported did not meet the criminal standard of harassment.
11:58am: The Jefferson Fire Department was dispatched to the 1200 block of Westwood Drive for smoke coming from an electrical box. An Officer responded and stood by until the Fire Department arrived.
2:10pm: Angela Dudley of Jefferson reported hearing a male voice in her basement. The Officer responded to the 500 block of South Olive Street and checked the basement. No one was found on the property other than Dudley.
4:06pm: Yvon Day of Jefferson reported a burglary to her residence in the 600 block of South Oak Street. The Officer is investigating.
5:11pm: KMC Finance reported a repossession of a vehicle in the 600 block of South Cedar Street. The company requested Officer assistance in returning personal property found in the vehicle. They were advised the Police Department did not offer this service.
5:35pm: Russell Melnick reported a possible trespass in the 100 block of North Maple Street, The Officer is investigating.
9:02pm: Kelsey Reed of Jefferson reported two Great Dane breed dogs running loose near the intersection of West Reed and North Pinet. The Officer contacted a possible owner for the dogs and found his were at home. The Officer checked the area for the strays and did not find them.
9:32pm: An Officer performed a traffic stop in the 1500 block of North Elm Street. As a result of the stop, Brett Matthew Johannes of Story City was placed under arrest and charges with “Operating a Motor Vehicle without Interlock Device / No Valid Drivers License / Excessive Speed”

Sunday, August 22nd
9:12am: An officer assisted the GC Ambulance with a Medical Call in the 700 Block of North Cedar Street.
10:33am: An officer assisted the GC Ambulance with a Medical Call in the 400 Block of Sundown Crt.
1:06pm: Officers responded to an Alarm Activation at 114 North Chestnut Street. All doors and windows were found to be secure.
1:44pm: Tammy Binkley requested a Welfare Check on a renter at 304 South Wilson Ave. The officer made contact with the subject, who advised they were fine.
1:45pm: During a Traffic Stop at Harrison and South Streets, the officer detected the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. During a “Probable Cause Search” of the vehicle, the officer located a baggy of suspected marijuana. The item was seized for lab testing and charges are pending results.
2:02pm: Erik Strawn reported a fawn had struck a fence in his yard and was injured at 1403 West Lincoln Way Street. The officer arrived and found the fawn was deceased. The officer removed and disposed of the carcass.
2:05pm: Nick Weber advised that in the past few days, someone had kicked in his door at 206 North Oak Street. He provided the officer with a possible suspect. The incident remains under investigation.
6:00pm: A juvenile female advised an officer of Harassment over Social Media. The officer is working to speak to the other party involved.
6:09pm: Douglas Plath reported the Theft of his $800.00 cell phone while at 777 Wild Rose Lane. The officer is working to obtain video surveillance footage to obtain a suspect in the matter.
6:22pm: Ola Jones requested a Welfare Check on a female in the 300 Block of East Lincoln Way Street. The officer made contact with the subject and determined she was fine.
Monday, August 23rd
10:24am: Regency Park reported the Theft of a laptop computer from 100 Ram Drive. The officer is investigating.
1:12pm: Brittany Olson reported the Jefferson Can Redemption Center, located at 222 East Lincoln Way Street, will only pay $.04 per can when she takes her cans in for redemption. The officer is looking into the matter.
3:59pm: An officer assisted the GC Ambulance with a Medical Call in the 100 Block of Ram Drive.
4:10pm: A caller advised of very young children riding a mini bike in the 600 Block of South Locust Street. The officer checked the area, but did not locate the subjects.
6:15pm: A caller advised a motorist was driving erratically on South Elm Street and had just struck a mailbox. The vehicle kept driving southbound on Elm Street. The officer left the city limits and located the vehicle near Hwy. 4 and 190 th Street. The vehicle was parked with a flat tire. The male driver admitted to striking the mailbox, causing damage to his 2017 Ford F150. The officer issued Donald Gardner of Ankeny a citation for, “Failure to Maintain Control.” The officer gave the resident at 1300 South Elm Street the driver’s insurance information for the destroyed mailbox and post.
Tuesday, August 24th
1:46am: An officer located an Open Door at 1000 North Cedar Street. The officer secured the building.
3:00am: An officer located an Open Door at 701 West Wall Street. The officer secured the building.
3:45am: An officer assisted family members with a subject who had fallen in the 200 Block of North Grimmell Road.
7:19am: A Traffic Stop at Grimmell and Central resulted in Dena Boyd of Jefferson being cited for, “Excessive Speed.”
11:40am: An officer was called the GC High School at 1901 North Grimmell Road for a reported Assault. Two juvenile females had been involved in an altercation. The officer is investigating, and Juvenile Charges are pending at this time.
3:00pm: Jefferson Water employees advised of a dog, which was in a wire kennel, had been dropped off inside the water treatment plant at 1000 North Cedar Street. The employees gave a description of the male and truck he was driving. The animal was placed in the Animal Holding Facility.
4:12pm: Kelly Park advised her vehicle was struck at 1901 North Grimmell Road earlier in the day while her daughter had the vehicle at school. The 2013 Hyundai Elantra suffered front end damage from the collision, estimated at $1400.00 to repair. The other reported involved vehicle was a black dually pickup. The officer is working to locate the driver and vehicle to speak to them.
7:12pm: A Traffic Stop in the 1900 Block of North Elm Street resulted in Anthony Myers of Ankeny being cited for, “Excessive Speed and Fail to Display Registration Plate.”
9:53pm: Brett Cranston reported a vehicle parked in the alley on the 100 Block of North Chestnut Street. The vehicle was removed before the officer’s arrival.
10:20pm: An officer assisted the GC Ambulance with a Medical Call in the 200 Block of West Gallop Road.
11:38pm: June Wood reported what she believed to be a mountain lion in the 1000 Block of West Adams Street. The officer did not locate the animal in the area.
Wednesday, August 25th
9:12am: Steve Nofel advised officers of a couple involved in a fight in the 700 Block of West Harrison Street. The officers arrived and made contact with the couple. The investigation led to the arrest of Roger Keith Ketchum, 33 of Jefferson for, “Domestic Abuse Assault – Serious.
5:05pm: Callers advised of three males with buckets attempting to collect money from drivers at Elm and Lincoln Way. Officers made contact with the three, who advised they are with a Tennessee Church that travels and collects money for victims. The officer advised them they can not impede traffic at the intersection. They understood and advised they would be moving on soon.
5:13pm: Richard Smith advised of a voicemail he received from someone claiming to be from Amazon. The caller advised of an order for $180.00 in merchandise from the company. The caller advised if Richard had not placed the order, to call them back and verify his information with them. The officer advised it was most likely a Scam. He advised Smith if an unordered package arrived, send it back before opening it.
6:28pm: Officers checked on a 911 hang Up Call from 209 East Gallop Road. The officers did not locate anyone in the area needing assistance.
7:59pm: Brittany Olson reported catching a Stray Dog near State and Walnut Streets. The officers returned the animal to the owner with a Verbal Warning.
