
Dallas Center – Grimes football competed in their first game of the season on Friday night, traveling to Alleman to take on the North Polk Comets. The host gave a tough welcome to the Mustangs, as DCG fell in their first game of the season by the score of 34-7.
North Polk was able to come out of the gate quickly, as they put up 14 points in the first quarter of play. DCG was able to score in the second quarter with a passing touchdown from Huston Halverson to Keaton Jackson to get the Mustangs on the board. North Polk would score two more times in the quarter, going into the locker room up 28-7 at halftime and never looking back.
DCG was plagued by turnovers throughout the evening as the team had four interceptions on the night. Halverson went 16/40 with 185 yards and a TD as well. The running game struggled to find ground, as a team DCG having 24 carries for 68 yards on the night.
Defensively DCG was able to find a good night from senior Austin Fiori, who was able to record 10 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, and a sack as well.
The Mustangs will be looking to find some relief at home this upcoming Friday, when they host the Bondurant-Farrar Bluejays in a week 2 matchup in Grimes.
