For those going floating on a body of water in Guthrie County there are some safety tips to follow.

Iowa Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer Jeremy King says floating has become immensely popular in the last five years and it’s where people float down a river using a floatation device. King states there have been some issues that have araised with floating in the last two years.

“(It’s) Been difficult for people to float. The water has been so low that they end up doing more, dragging and walking than they do floating.”

King says this has increased the length of float trips and that you should go with a group of people and develop a plan to avoid being stuck somewhere. King adds that no one wants to bring their cell phones with them in fear of losing it, but it is crucial.
