The month of September celebrates National Library Card Sign-up and the Perry Public Library is encouraging people to get one.

Library Director Mary Murphy encourages those in the community who don’t have a library card to get one as it is free and easy to do. Murphy says there are plenty of services for people to experience at the library.

“National Library Card Sign Up Month is when we just say ‘If you haven’t got one it’s free’ and we have lots and lots of resources. Some resources that people don’t think we have is that we have a produce rescue program going on and so when you come in the library we have some produce that was rescued from the dumpster.”

Murphy tells Raccoon Valley Radio there are other resources outside of checking out books including databases that range in topics and the library continues to add new databases for patrons to access.

“The database that we are going to be acquiring just in the near future is all about autoimmune diseases.”
