When it comes to the stressors of everyday life, even teenagers can experience stress they might not know how to handle.
Dallas County Extension Educator Maddie Mardesen says being able to give teens the tools necessary to manage stress is important and an upcoming program called Mindful Teen will do just that.
“It focuses on practical strategies for them to manage stress, handle difficult emotions, help improve relationships and overall well being including performance in school and afterschool activities. This is a good chance for these youth to just focus on themselves, think about something other than the million things that they have going on.”
Mardesen tells Raccoon Valley Radio the program will provide tips and ways they can focus on themselves and can continue to work on even after the program is over. Mardesen says while people may overlook stress for teenagers, it is an important topic.
“They deal with just as much if not more stress than we do. Just to look out for maybe those warning signs that you have in your life that you can maybe start seeing in your youth.”
The Mindful Teen program has a deadline of October 4th for registration and signup can be found here.
