Coach Jeff Lamoureux’s boys’ cross-country team from Greene County High School finished sixth among 12 teams on Tuesday on the Lake City Golf Course at the South Central Calhoun Invitational. There were not enough Greene County girls for a team score.
The Rams had 153 points with Ogden winning the team title with 48. Kuemper Catholic (Carroll) was second at 64 and Southeast Valley (Gowrie) placed third with 85 points.
Leading Greene County was Jayden Carstensen in 19:13.86 for the five kilometers (3.1 miles) in 19:13.86. Ethan Frederick was 29th in 19:38.71, followed by Gavyn Winters, 30th in 19:46.71, Logan Woodruff, 34th in 19:57.44, and Noah Hinote, 39th in 20:19.67. Coach Lamoureux said the team had everyone running for the first time in 3-1/2 weeks, but some of the Rams who missed time due to illness are not yet at full strength. He’s hoping there’s enough time between now and State Qualifying on Oct. 21 for everyone to be running their best.
Olivia Shannon led the Greene County girls with a 32nd place finish in 24:51.77. Autumn Stevens was 56th in 29:13.26.
The runners are back at it tomorrow for the Saydel (Des Moines) Eagles Invitational.
