The Perry School Board recently discussed the potential of purchasing two new buses.
At their meeting on October 11th, the Board discussed buying one new handicap bus as well as a new 77-passenger bus. Superintendent Clark Wicks explains why the District is possibly looking to upgrade some of their buses.
“One of the handicap buses is around a 2000, 2001 (model year) I believe so we’ve got our use out of that particular bus. The other thing is as we see an increase in the number of students with wheelchairs, we want to keep that spacing so that kids are safe.”
Wicks tells Raccoon Valley Radio the purchase of the 77-passenger bus will have bids for approval at the School Board’s next meeting in November. Wicks says the District is looking to stay on their rotation schedule with purchasing buses.
“We want to try to keep ahead of the game, continue to add buses. The other thing that we want to do is, as we add a dependable bus, is to be able to have that extra bus so we can help to decrease the crowded situation in some of our pickup areas.”
Wicks points out the potential for adding another route in the morning or night to pick up kids will be an additional asset as more kids ride the bus as it gets colder.
