Iowa high school volleyball’s postseason starts tonight for Greene County and Paton-Churdan. The Rams are home with OABCIG (Ida Grove) in the high school gym in Jefferson in Class 3A Region 3 first round play while the Rockets play a 1A Region 4 match at Ft. Dodge St. Edmond vs. the Gaels. Tonight’s winners move on while the losing teams will have their seasons come to an end.

Greene County is 15-12 on the season and is coming off an 0-3 day to end the regular season at the Winterset Tournament, with losses to the host Huskies, Red Oak, and Webster City. OABCIG is 14-14 and finished sixth among nine teams in the River Valley Conference. The Rams were fourth among seven Heart of Iowa Activities Conference teams.

Coach Chris Heisterkamp reports scores on Saturday were 16-21, 21-15, 5-15 vs. Winteset, 16-21, 2-21 against Webster City, and 9-21, 8-21 vs. Red Oak. The Rams served at 92% for the day and were led in kills by Emma Shipley with 10, Emma Ewalt at eight, Bella Schroeder with seven, Brianna Habben with six, and five from Kaylee Stalder.

The coach added, “The best game of the day was the second set against Winterset. Everything was working. We had some bumps in the road after that, but it was good to face strong teams before our first round match against OABCIG.”

P-C played in the Rolling Valley Activities Conference Tournament on Saturday and did not find the victory column. Coach Makayla Sparrs team is has one win on the season. The Gaels have a record of eight wins and 21 losses.
