The high school volleyball postseason began for Greene County on Monday night inside the Rams’ gym in Jefferson vs. OABCIG (Ida Grove). The teams entered the Class 3A Region 3 quarterfinal round with similar season records of 14-14 for OABCIG and 15-12 for Greene County. The Rams won the match in four sets by scores of 20-25, 25-22, 25-20, 25-216 to advance to tomorrow night’s semifinal vs. seventh ranked Unity Christian in Orange City. UC won its quarterfinal in three sets vs. Pocahontas Area. Coach Chris Heisterkamp’s Rams improved to 16-12 and they’ll move on to the Wednesday night semifinal while OABCIG finished the season at 14-15.

The Falcons trailed 4-2 in set one, then put a run of nine straight points on the Rams to take a lead they would not give up.The Rams were down by nine points, then closed to within 15-18 before losing by five points.

Set two saw the Rams score the first nine points before the Falcons got to within 22-24, but a service error put the Rams over the top.

The third set was tied at 15-15, then Greene County held a 21-20 lead before scoring the final four points of the set.

The last set saw the Rams lead most of the way, taking control down the stretch winning by  nine.
