Class 3A seventh ranked Unity Christian (Orange City) was too much for Greene County on Wednesday night at Sioux Central High School in Sioux Rapids. The Knights won the Region 3 volleyball semifinal vs. the Rams in straight sets by scores of 10-25, 9-25, 13-25. UC advances to the Region 3 final on Oct. 26 with a 27-4 record while Coach Chris Heisterkamp’s team finished with 16 wins and 13 losses. The winning season was the first since 2011 for the Rams. Brianna Habben is the lone senior that played appreciable varsity minutes, so a lot of experience is expected to return in 2022.

Greene County held a handful of one point leads vs. the Knights, but the majority of the match was played from behind. UC put set one away with a run of eight straight points to lead 24-9 before the Rams broke the run. The second set saw the Knights put nine unanswered on the Rams for a 20-6 lead, and in set three, UC built a 20-6 advantage en route to the victory. Strong serving and attacking led UC, a traditional volleyball power, into the Region 3 final. Greene County had a difficult time getting a stronghold in any phase of the game.
