Yesterday we looked at the 11 Greene County football players that received recognition from coaches in Class 2A District 8. Today, we mention the 10 Rams who received defensive recognition. Coach Caden Duncan was named the head coach of the year in the district after Greene County went 5-0 to win the district title and all five wins were by 41 or more points.
The Rams have five players on the first team defense. Senior Bradyn Smith is a middle linebacker who is a repeat selection in anchoring the middle of the defense. Sophomore nose tackle Michael Rumley led 2A players in tackles for loss in the 2021 regular season. Junior defensive back Richard Daugherty had five pass interceptions and senior safety Max Riley picked off three passes. Both played offense as receivers and Daugherty was one of 2A’s top kickoff and punt returners. Nate Black, a senior, was the first team punter, who also was a running back, defensive back, and he handled the majority of kickoff duties.
Second team players on defense were Lamar Anders and Brenner Gallagher. Anders, a junior, primarily played inside linebacker, but on occasion were play on the line. Gallagher had three pass interceptions as a defensive back, and was also a receiver and special teams player.
Honorable mention defenders for the Rams are senior Blake Hamman, a defensive end, plus sophomore linebacker Gavin Scheuermann and sophomore defensive back Gabe Ebersole.
