Dallas Center – Grimes girls basketball will get their first practice going next week, with hopes of getting a repeat performance from their 2020-21 season that saw them go 21-3 and reach the state semifinals in 3A. They were able to pick up their first every state tournament victory in the process as well. Despite losing a few key players from that team, Mustang basketball will be looking to reload and could have as good of a team for 2021-22.

This Mustang team will be losing a pair of key starters in Julia Reis and Lexi Protzman, but should have a healthy amount of talent coming back to help fill the void. Junior Emma Miner and sophomore Vanessa Bickford are expected to headline a great lineup for the Mustangs, as they will be hoping to use a mix of youth and experience to lead their team. They will have Avery Korsching, Samantha York, Alexia Henrichs, Ella Lampe, and Elle Nelson the five seniors on this team.

They will be a projected favorite in the Little Hawkeye Conference and do have hopes to return to the state tournament next March.

For DCG, it’s never rebuild, it’s always reload with this unit. Mustang basketball will have their first game of the season,
